Marion Meadows: Whisper CD 2013

Download

Marion Meadows is without question one of the most popular and unique talents on the Jazz scene today. Blessed with movie star looks and the smoothest saxophone tone on the planet, Marion has sold close to one million albums in his brilliant career. Whisper is probably Marion’s most intimate and sensuous album yet. Co produced by his long time collaborators, Bob Baldwin, who appears as a special guest on this album, and Michael Broening, who has produced George Benson and Al Jarreau, Whisper overflows with romantic, pulsating grooves.

Highlights include brilliant originals ranging from smooth and sexy (“Turn Up The Quiet,” “Whisper”) to in the pocket groovers (“Here We Go,” “Bottom’s Up”). In addition, Marion reinvents Freddie Hubbard’s signature “Sky Dive” and Dave Valentine’s Latin tinged “Marcoshino,” bringing today’s sound to these jazz classics.

Product Reviews

Soprano saxophonist Marion Meadows plays what has to be called smooth jazz, but he stretches the template a bit by incorporating subtly nuanced Latin, Eastern, and African touches into his style. Whisper is Meadows’ first new studio album since 2009’s Secrets, and in many ways it works as a sort of follow-up bookend to that earlier project, and while it doesn’t really ruffle any feathers, or even try to, it does generate a nice little smooth and rhythmic breeze., Rovi
